Shrimp
Few singular foods - by that I mean foods that are often represented by one term in recipes and references - have such varied forms. Especially if you include prawns, a term that has a fuzzy, region-specific delineation with “shrimp”.
The US West Coast brings us tiny, delicate and subtly sweet bay shrimp (also called salad shrimp or just pink shrimp).
Culinarily, shrimp generally play a role of sweet, firmer flesh than fish.
